James Herbert Schiltz passed away November 5, 2017 surrounded by his wife, Marilyn and four children. James H. Schiltz was born December 22, 1933 in Alexandria, South Dakota to Lawrence and Isabelle Schiltz. Jim was in the army and attended topography school to learn map making and was assigned to the map making company. After the army Jim enrolled at South Dakota State University and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He took a job with the Air Force at WPAFB doing navigation and guidance electronics where he worked for 30 years on various projects including: F15, F16, F117, AWACS, Hounddog, B51, B15, C121, the Stealth, and numerous topsecret systems.
Jim was a great dad and took his family on many long vacations all around the country. Jim and Marilyn retired to Montrose Colorado to be near family. Jim’s hobbies included woodworking, hiking and snow skiing. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, and his four children Steve (Joyce) Schiltz, Julie (John) Kleinhenz, Connie (Dale) Ward, and Dave (Lisa) Schiltz. He has 10 grandchildren: Colin & Arond Schiltz; Ethan & Connor Kleinhenz; Nicole, Zachary & Levi Ward; Erica, Justin & Rachel Schiltz; and 3 great-grandchildren: Molly & Lucy Schiltz and Emalyn Saunders.
Arrangements are under direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory.
