James Edward Jackson
October 18, 1925 ~ August 5, 2014
Lifetime Montrose County resident James Edward Jackson passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Colorow Care Center in Olathe, where he resided for the past 6 years. He was 88 years old.
James was born in a house on Franklin Mesa, Montrose, Colorado to C.F. and Florence Jackson. He was very close to his grandfather, Francis Marion Jackson. He attended schools in the Montrose and Olathe area. He knew what hard physical labor was from a very early age. He was a farmer and ranch-hand until his retirement.
James married Peggy Ann Castle January 13, 1954 in Montrose, Colorado. Peggy died January 15, 1994.
James is survived by his two daughters, Peggy (Jack) Cunningham and Linda (Wayne) Vanderpool, daughter-in-law, Jill Jackson, and his six grandchildren, Jack Cunningham, Willard Jackson, Clayton Jackson, Whitney Jackson, Carly Jackson and Sarah Vanderpool. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, his sister Eleane Hall, several cousins, and numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, his son, Billy, and his brother, Howard.
His greatest joys were his grandchildren. He loved his fishing and camping trips to Yellowstone and Idaho with his beloved son, Billy and his kids. He had a special relationship with both of his son-in-laws.
He liked watching the Denver Broncos, and Westerns – especially John Wayne Westerns. He had such good times on his hunting trips with his beloved brother-in-law, Harry Castle. He would laugh and laugh at the stories Harry would tell.
He loved everyone in his large Jackson-Castle family. He had many friends in the Olathe and Montrose Communities. He had special relationships with each and every one.
He never complained. He did the best he could for as long as he could, and everyone who knew him is richer for it. He was a good man. We will never forget that sweet smile. The family would like to thank his cousin Ralph Hopping and nephew Randy Castle for everything they did for James while he was still home.
The family would like to thank Idania, Lisa, and Dinna and all the CAN’s and nurses at Colorow for their loving and wonderful care. It is amazing how you cared for James. He thought of each one of you as his friend. He would like to give special thanks to Dr. Brezinsky for letting James always be “The boss”. A celebration of James’ life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow the service at the Olathe Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
