JAMES E. (JIM) FLOWERS
Jim Flowers passed away Tuesday, April 10, after a lengthy illness.
Jim was born April 13, 1939, in Montrose, Co. To Wayne E. And Nellie (Humphrey) Flowers. He attended school at the Kinikin School for first grade, and then finished his elementary schooling at the Uncompahgre School. He graduated from Montrose High School with the class of 1957, was very active in FFA and served as secretary at the state level. He married Rayma Harris in August, 1960, and was father to three children. Farming, ranching, and livestock were his main interests until he attended auction school in 1970. He opened the livestock auction in Montrose, and owned and operated it for several years.The business was closed due to his failing health, and he then worked with the livestock auctions first in Salida, then Monte Vista, and finally Western Slope Cattlemen’s Livestock Auction at Loma, Co. Along with the farming and ranching, he also held periodic farm machinery auctions at his lot in Montrose. He had a large collection of antique and classic tractors and vehicles. He worked at a variety of jobs through the years and made many good friends. He loved his family – children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and enjoyed his auction career. He is survived by his wife, Rayma; daughters, Jill (Dave) Kearns of Montrose; Joy (Doug) McKnight of Ignacio; and son, Jimmy D. (April) Flowers of Grand Junction. Eight grandchildren – Nolan Kearns, Nathan (Chanen) Kearns; Ashlee (Jesse) McKnight/Ellison, Josh, and Codi McKnight; Samantha, Jacquelyn, and James D. Flowers. Great grandchildren, Karson and Kelton Guilliams, and Cylah and Kymber Kearns. Siblings, JoAnn (Jim) Gardner, Jerry (Vicky) Flowers, Bill (Debra) Flowers, and Jack Flowers and Sandy. Sister & Brother-in-law, Beverly and Wayne Brown, along with many nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by his long-time close friend and co-workers, Bill (Karen) Sutton and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne & Nellie Flowers; nephew, Larry Brown, and great niece, Alisha Bishop.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 24, at the Events Center at the Montrose Fairgrounds beginning at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be at the Crippin Chapel on Monday evening, April 23, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Private interment will be at a later date.
