Irene Williams passed away August 6 in Montrose, having just celebrated her 94th birthday with her family.  Born Irene Rowskowski on July 29, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she lived much of her life in Texas and became a Montrose resident in 2001.

She was a talented artist and craftsperson as well as a prolific quilter who enjoyed sewing blankets and quilts for donation to local charities.  She had been a volunteer and active participant in activities at the Montrose Senior Pavilion where she especially enjoyed the Saturday night dances.  Irene traveled extensively in her later years, making numerous domestic and international trips, including a visit to the Great Wall of China at age 86.  She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Montrose.  Surviving Irene are her five children, seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Dora Cornman, Sharron Hicks, Kaye Williams-Hay and Joyce Taylor, as well as her son, Bill Williams, Jr. and numerous extended family members.  Irene is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bill Williams, Sr., whom she first met at a dance. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 11, at Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose, followed by internment at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 1:00 p.m.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
