Imogene (Jean) Lewis (Walker)

January 7, 1925 — June 9, 2014

Imogene (Jean) Walker Lewis passed away June 9 2014 after a brief illness.  She was 89 years old.  Jean was born January 7, 1925, in Olathe Colorado to Tivis A. Walker and Ethelyn May Story Walker.  She was one of 8’children:  twins Dean and Almeda May, Ellen, Evelyn, then Jean, LaVeta, John William, and Betty.  Jean’s parents also took in her father’s youngest brother Charley after his parents died when he was just a young boy.

Jean attended school at Highlands for about a year and a half.  Upon her fathers death in 1932 the family bought a home one mile west of Olathe where Jean lived until she married. After the move Jean attended Olathe Grade School and Olathe High School, graduating in 1943.  After graduation she went to work for Bryant and Petrie Law Firm in Montrose.  After working there for 9 years she spent a year in Anchorage working for the law firm of Plumer & Arnell. After returning to Montrose Jean worked at Lathrop Hardware for 15 years.  When Lathrops closed Jean spent the next 24 years working at Montrose Consumers Oil Corporation from which she retired.

In October 1956 Jean married Tom Lewis in Olathe.  After their marriage they moved to Montrose where they spent the rest of their lives.

One of Jeans favorite things to do was fishing and camping.  She also loved to travel and was a great collector. The walls of her home were lined with all manner of collectibles.  Jean was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.

Jean is survived by her sister Ellen of Monte Vista CO and sister-in-law Lois Walker of Gypsum CO, innumerable nieces and nephews, grands and great-grands and great-great-grands.  Also survived by special friends Leonard Paul and JoAnn Wigner.  She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Services will be held Monday June 16 at 11:00 AM, at Old King James Bible Baptist Church in Olathe, burial to follow at Olathe Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado
