Helen Orpha Teague Turner
March 9, 1940 – December 1, 2017
Helen Orpha Teague Turner, 77 went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2017 following a lengthy battle with failing lungs. She was born in La Junta, Colorado, to Bessie Lolene Stansberry Kellison Teague and Arthur Lawrence Teague on March 9, 1940. The family moved to San Bernardino, Ca the day before Pearl Harbor was bombed. The next day, December 7, 1941 they took her to Huntington Beach to see the ocean for the first time. That is where they were when they heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Helen attended school in Pomona, Ca and went to Pomona High School.
She married L. Eugene Turner on November 14, 1959 in Las Vegas, NV and made their home in Pomona, Ca. She ran her own business from 1976 to 2002, when she retired. Helen was an avid reader and book collector. She co-authored several books with her sister, and loved to give parties for her friends and family. Helen had no children of her own but was a loving aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews. She liked to tell them family stories.
She was a member of Silver Star Chapter No. 40, Order of the Eastern Star, (formerly of Garnet Chapter #39, Delta) and attended Eckert Presbyterian Church before her confinement.
Helen was proceeded in death by both her parents and her husband. She is survived by brother, L. Lee Teague (Suzanne) of Montrose, Co and her sister Betty Teague Aucoin (Jerry) of Eugene, Or. At Helen’s request cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Donations in loving memory of Helen may be made to Hopewest Hospice.
