Harry Lee Flack, State of Colorado Registered Professional Engineer # 2160-Retired, passed away March 21, 2015 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colorado.
Harry was born May 27, 1916 in a small farm house north of Ignacio, Colorado to William Lester Flack and Ella Marie (King). Harry was raised in the Ignacio area graduating from Ignacio High School and attending Fort Lewis College. In 1953, Harry received his Civil Engineering Degree from Colorado State University and his Professional Engineer’s license from the State of Colorado.
In 1938, Harry married Davidena Grace (Lundsford) and was married to her for 69 years until her death in 2007. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Flack, his sisters, Francis Flack (Briggs), Ella Flack (Smith), Margaret Flack (Rowse) and his infant son, Warner Lee Flack. He is survived by his son Kenneth Flack, of Montrose, granddaughter Elisabeth Flack of California, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Harry served 28 months in the Navy’s Construction Battalion, Seabees to the end of World War II, and was stationed in the Pacific both in Hawaii and Guam building ship docks. He returned to federal civil service working on the John Martin Dam near Lamar and transferred to the Denver Federal Center in 1947 to work on research and development of concrete/materials designs and testing for the Bureau of Reclamation.
In 1963, Harry moved with his family to Montrose and was the Materials Engineer for the construction of Morrow Point Dam. He retired from the Bureau in 1971, and continued to work as a concrete engineer with a Chicago based engineering company building a power dam overseas in Iran for 5 years, then on a river bridge project for 2 year in Venezuela. Harry took many trips traveling in the United State always returning home to Montrose to do smaller engineering projects, church activities, and fishing.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Valley, 10 Hillcrest Plaza Way, Montrose CO.
At Harry’s request, A graveside service will be conducted at Crestview Memorial Cemetery, South of Durango, on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Gary Hodges officiating. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory of Montrose, Co. is assisting the family.
