Guillaume “Frenchie” Daguerre

January 24, 1935 ~ November 26, 2016

“Frenchie” was an incredible man. His given name was Guillaume Daguerre, Son of Pierre Daguerre and Terese Eyhèrabide; born in Saint-Martin D’Arberoue, France in 1935. He was the younger of two siblings. His journey was inspired by the comments of his brother who would say “Catching your shadow allows your dreams to come true.” Armed with this dream, he served in the French Foreign Legion, as an Ammunitions Guard, while stationed in Morocco.  His desire of a better life brought him to America in 1958, where he worked as a sheepherder, and discovered his love of the outdoors and Big game hunting in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. His occupations included Uranium Mining as a contractor, and as a driller, for 35 years. He retired from Union Carbide/ UMETCO in the mid 1990’s.

Frenchie’s personality was magnetic and readily recognized with stories of his strength and opulent personality by the people he worked with and his family.  He spoke 4 languages fluently, and had a smile and joke for every occasion, inspiring others and family members daily with insight and clarity. His children and grandchildren thrived with love and inspiration from his daily smiles and infectious laughter.

Frenchie married in 1965, to his wife of 51 years, Mary Daguerre (Maria De Jesus Mier) and settled in the west end of Montrose County, where they raised three daughters. In 2000 they moved to Olathe, Colorado where they bought a home, and shared their love of gardening, family, and retirement.

Frenchie is survived by his wife, Mary of Olathe, Colorado; daughter Mindy (Bill) Hemphill of Paradox, Colorado; daughter Linda Daguerre of Montrose, Colorado; daughter Maite Daguerre of Telluride, Colorado; grandchildren, Crystallyn (Travis) Patterson; Sheldon (Eleasha) Hemphill;  Scott (Kelley) Hemphill; and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be a Funeral Service for Frenchie on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with inurnment to follow at the Olathe Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory. (970)249-2121
