Gloria Mae (Van Pelt) Clark
September 4, 1930 ~ February 9, 2018
Gloria Clark, age 87, passed away peacefully Friday, February 9th 2018 at Brookdale Sunrise Creek in Montrose, where she had resided for 13 months.
Gloria was born to Chancy and Goldie (Reiff) Van Pelt in Codell, Kansas. The Van Pelt family moved to Kremmling, Colorado in 1934. Gloria grew to adulthood in Kremmling and graduated from Kremmling Union High School in 1948, then attended the Colorado Women’s College in Denver, CO for one year. Gloria married Verlyn D. Clark, September 4th, 1949 in Kremmling. They were married for 52 years before Verlyn’s passing December 12, 2002 in Yuma, Arizona. Two sons were born to this union, Chancy Dale and Darrell Dean.
Verlyn became a Colorado State Patrolman in 1955 and the young family relocated from Hot Sulfer Springs to Idaho Springs. Gloria was active in Boy Scouts, Eastern Star, and the Methodist Church. She worked many years for Cal Gas as a bookkeeper. The Clark family relocated to Golden in 1968, living there until 1974 when Verlyn was promoted to Lieutenant and they moved to Sterling. While there, both Gloria and Verlyn were involved with the Masonic White Shrine. Gloria and Verlyn, moved back to Kremmling after Verlyn’s retirement in 1983 and built their dream home in Old Park, outside of Kremmling. They spent the next 16 years enjoying their winters in Yuma, Arizona and summers in Colorado. In 1999, Gloria and Verlyn moved to Montrose to be closer to family.
Gloria enjoyed traveling when their boys were younger, and later on with the grandchildren, camping and visiting many National Parks and other destinations. In her later years she enjoyed playing the penny slots at the casinos in Black Hawk and Indian Casinos in Arizona and Colorado. After moving to Montrose she played pinochle with several ladies groups. After moving into assisted living her schedule revolved around Bingo. She made many new friends at Brookdale and enjoyed the views of the San Juan’s and watching the deer and birds from her windows. Gloria’s life focus was always her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and granny to the great grandchildren. She was also an avid reader, cross word puzzle worker, and a huge Bronco fan! We will miss her joy of life, and are grateful for our time with her.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Brookdale for taking such good care of her.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Chancy and Goldie; husband, Verlyn; and sons Darrell and Chancy. She is survived by her brother Chancy Darrell Van Pelt of Spring Field, Missouri; sisters Patricia (Duane) Scholl of Kremmling, and Bonnie Jensen of Denver; daughter’s-in-law, Patricia Clark of Montrose, and Linda Clark of Broomfield. Grandchildren, Sean (Nicole) Clark; Teah and Adley of Durango; Jaime (Joe) Sessions; Hunter and Jenna of Walden; Michaela and Katie Clark of Denver, and many nieces and nephews.
