Glenna E. (Lee) Messer known to many as “Kinky” , 87, a resident of Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colorado was called home Sunday, September 2, 2018.
Glenna was born August 22, 1931 in Copeland, Kansas to Ernest and Mary(Woods) Lee. Glenna had two brothers and four sisters, who all preceded her in death. Glenna was married September 1, 1946 in Dodge City, Kansas to George Messer Jr.. Glenna worked office jobs and served tables throughout her life. She loved serving people.
Glenna and George were married sixty-six and one half years before George was called home. They lived in numerous Kansas towns, and lived a short period in Denver, Colorado, only to return to Kansas. Glenna loved singing, as she, George, Donna, and Steve created a gospel quartet. Glenna loved spending time with family, and playing games. She loved the Lord Jesus! She and George are the reason many family members serve God today.
Glenna is survived by her daughter, Donna (Messer) Burkholder of Montrose, Colorado, and her son Mark Messer and wife Marty of Augusta, Kansas. Glenna has twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and twenty great great grandchildren.
Glenna is preceded in death by her husband George December 13, 2011, son Kenneth Messer January 26, 2000, and son-in-law Stephen Burkholder July 30, 2014.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 6:30 pm in Olathe, Colorado at the home of Glenna’s great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 am in Fort Dodge, Kansas at Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Hummel, Brett Messer, Tyler Messer, Jimmy Burkholder, Steve Burkholder, and Jeffery Hummel Jr.. Services will be officiated by Jim Burkholder.
