Gladys C. Maness, age 100, lifetime resident of Montrose CO. passed away October 26, 2017 at Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Gladys was born November 3, 1916 to Frank P. and Lois M. (Gleason) Tillstrom in Montrose. She spent her childhood in the Coal Creek Community in Montrose and attended Montrose High School. She married Ralph E. Maness on May 28, 1932 in Grand Junction, CO. He preceded Gladys in death on April 9, 1986 in Montrose.
She was a loving mom, a farmer and a homemaker. Gladys worked as secretary for Conoco Distributorship for many years. She was a member of Montrose Christian Church, Rebekah’s, and Coal Creek Social Hour Club. Gladys was very active in the Coal Creek School PTC, and also doing church work for many years. She enjoyed her accomplishments at stained glass, sewing and gardening. Following the death of her husband, Gladys traveled to the Holy Land twice and to the Scandinavian Countries, British Isles and Germany.
Surviving family members include her son Darrell (Lynn) Maness of Montrose; three daughters Carol Humphrey of Olathe, Diane (Wyatt) Stoll of Montrose and Donna (Carl) Anderson of Craig, CO; and daughter-in-law Carolyn Maness of Colorado Springs, Co; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, son Franklin, grandson Jeffrey Stoll, son-in-law Tom Humphrey and daughter-in-law Jacquelyn Maness.
A Celebration of Gladys’ life will be held on her birthday, November 3, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Montrose Christian Church. Burial will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montrose Christian Church, 2351 Sunnyside Road, Montrose, Co. 81401. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose.
