Jerry was born in Norwood, CO on January 19, 1954, to Robert Nix and Neva Dell Penasa, and passed away on April 7, 2019. Jerry spent his early years in Silverton, Telluride, and the Nucla area.  He graduated from Silverton in 1972 and went on to further his education at Trinidad State Junior College. He eventually settled down in Nucla where he married Glenna Noble and started a family.  He and his family owned and operated the Nucla and Naturita hardware stores for over twenty-five years. After he retired from the hardware stores, he went to work in the oil and gas industry out in Dry Creek Basin area.  He enjoyed traveling, and through work, he was able to visit Antarctica, New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia. He was active in local politics serving on the Nucla Town Board, Chamber of Commerce and Tri-Town Revitalization.  He was also a founding member of the Ten Ring Gun Club where he was the current secretary/treasurer. He was also instrumental in starting the Prairie Dog Shoot. Jerry was a gun enthusiast and loved to share his knowledge on the subject.  He liked to hunt, fish, and spend time visiting with his family. He is survived by his daughter Brandi (Alan) Hatfield of Norwood, Erin (Alex) Philp of California. Glenna Nix and Karl Redd of Nucla. His grandchildren Jade Nix, Keelee and Kyra Redd, and Alex Philp Jr. As well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Lacie Redd, his son Justin Nix, and sister Christine and both parents and grandparents. Funeral services will be held on April 27th, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the First Park Community Center (Old Moose Lodge.) He will be interned at the Nucla Cemetery with Lacie. A dinner will follow back at the First Park Community Center.
