Gail Marie Hampton
August 19, 1942 ~ April 14, 2018

Gail Marie Hampton, age 75, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at The Homestead of Montrose. Gail was born on August 19, 1942, to Kenneth and Laura (Smith) Ramer in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania. Gail grew up in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and New Jersey. She attended Irvington High School in Irvington, NJ and graduated from the University of Colorado. Gail became an X-Ray Tech and married the love of her life John Robert “Bob” Hampton on December 1, 1962, in Commerce City, CO. Gail and Bob were married for 55 years until Bob’s passing in December 2017.
For over 10 years Gail volunteered with HopeWest Hospice helping in the office and offering companionship to patients. As a testimony to her passion for the hospice program, she was voted “Volunteer of the Year”.
Gail enjoyed reading, card games, jigsaw puzzles, drawing, bingo, bongo drums, learning American Sign Language, teaching piano, and doing Bible studies. She always would bet people that she was right by saying, “Betcha a nickel!” Gail waited a long time to become a grandma and when the time came, she spoiled the grandsons rotten. The last few months of her life at The Homestead she did a lot of activities like art, sign language, and bingo. If you wanted to visit or call, you needed an appointment as to not interrupt her bingo games.
Gail is survived by her children, Dan (Lisa) Hampton of Westminster, CO; Bonnie (Don) Walker of Fruita, CO; her sister, Sandy Kayser, of Littleton, CO; sisters-in-law, Gladys Carroll of Villa Grove, CO; Raetta Leiker of Montrose, CO; and Debbie Atchley of Montrose, CO; and two grandchildren, Garrett and William Walker.
Gail is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Laura Ramer; her husband John “Bob” Hampton; her sisters, Joy Miller, and Vickie Ramer.
