Frankie Diane Squirrell
February 14, 1936- February 13, 2018
Frankie Diane Squirrell, of Grand Junction, CO passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 nearly reaching her 82nd birthday.
Frankie was born in Montrose, CO on February 14, 1936 and was the only child to Frank and Lois Edwards. She was raised in Durango and graduated from Durango High School in 1954, where she was a Valedictorian. She attended Western State College, married and moved to Grand Junction in 1956. She spent 20 years raising her four children, and then pursued a career in banking with First National Bank, she started as a bank teller and eventually finished out her career as a manager in the Trust Department. The restructuring of First National Bank led to an early retirement for Frankie and she found herself working for the District Attorney’s office for many years, retiring in 2004.
Frankie’s life was centered around her children and grandchildren- being with them made her happy. She will be remembered as loving, kind and generous with an open home and heart to anyone in need or just for a joyous holiday dinner. Old friends and family members reminisce by saying, “She was always so good to me!”
Frankie loved her Valentine roses for her birthday, socializing with her family and friends, playing bridge with the same dear friends for 50 years and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events She was an avid Broncos fan and enjoyed cooking, traveling, dancing, the performing arts, bowling and taking care of her beloved dogs.
Frankie is survived by her four children; Sharmon O’Brien from Edwards, Sid Squirrell and wife Jodie from Grand Junction, Sherri Lytle from Fort Collins, and Donny Squirrell and wife Pamela from Montrose. Frankie was also blessed with 12 grandchildren; Cannon, Mckenzie and Alli O’Brien, Rylan, Kyler and Carder Squirrell, Forrest, Audrey Carr and Madi Lytle, and Sheldon, Samantha, and Sara Squirrell. Plus, two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Tessa Carr and her special dog Jack. She will be dearly missed every day and her spirit will live on for all who knew her.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 7th at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction at 2PM.
