He inspired local artists such as furniture sculptor Kevin Des Planques. And many of his students won art awards for the first time after having met Gauna. Gauna himself took home many art awards in Montrose, including People’s Choice and Best in Show.

Even into his 80s, Gauna continued to create powerful, one-of-a kind paintings, including paintings of Christ and paintings of the cross – undeniably powerful, honest and emotional statements, serious works that would rival the Masters.

His wife Audrey Gauna was his soul-mate, and she’s welcoming the community to her loving and devoted husband’s Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 4.
