Frank E. Koenig, age 95, of Montrose died Thursday morning, July 17, 2015 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.

Frank was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 9, 1919, the son of Frank and Maude Koenig.  He spent his childhood in Kansas, moving to Colorado after his service in the Navy.

Frank married Mary Marlene Schoonover on January 30, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas.  Frank and Mary were the parents of six children of whom five survived.  The Koenig family have lived in the Colorado area since 1946.  In 1988, Frank and Mary moved from Fairplay to Montrose.

Along with his wife, Mary, Frank founded the Sharing Ministries in 1996.  It is a non-profit, non-denominational, faith based food bank in Montrose, Colorado.

Frank worked in the construction industry for more than 60 years, is an ordained Baptist Minister, a World War II Navy Veteran and a Korean War Army Veteran.  He has shown that one person’s effort can really make a difference in their community.

Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, his infant daughter, two brothers, and two sisters.  Survivors include daughters; Deanna and husband Ron Nelson of Alberton, Utah; Shirley Dotson of Montrose; Patti and husband Dale Lauer of Bellevue, Washington; Betty and husband Eric Gibson of Mesa, Arizona; and his son, Frank Douglas Koenig of Reno, Nevada. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.  We will cherish his quick wit, sense of humor and his giving spirit.

Funeral Services will be officiated by Pastor Michael J. Moran on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10:00am at the New Life Family Worship Center in Montrose.  Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sharing Ministries, Inc. Food Bank.  Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado. (970) 249-2121.
