Montrose, Colorado ~ Evelyn Ann Coleman, age 83, passed away April 13, 2016.
Evelyn Ann Evans Coleman was born July 14, 1932 to Link and Pebble Evans in Mercedes, Texas. Her nickname was “Cyclone Bill: to honor her great grandfather, John William Link. She attended Fairmount Elementary and Northeast High in Independence, Missouri and Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri.
Evelyn married John “J.R.” Coleman on May 16, 1952 at Mt. Washington Baptist Church, where she had professed her faith in Christ, was baptized, sang in the church choir and participated in many youth activities.
J.R.’s employment as a truck driver moved them to Oklahoma City from 1958 to 1960 and then on to Montrose, Colorado until 1983. They briefly returned to Kansas City for a couple of years before moving back to Colorado.
Evelyn held a variety of jobs over the years, as a cook for a Girl Scout Camp, a switchboard operator at the Independence Phone Company, she worked for G. E. Supply, Safeway Stores, in the City Market Bakery in Montrose, and in the cafeteria at the Independence Sanitarium. They retired in 1985.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, one brother Bill, and one great grandson Kage. Survivors include two sons, Mark Coleman and John Link Coleman; two daughters Denise Bolider, and Melinda Coleman; eight grandchildren Troy and Stephanie Coleman, Chanel Coleman, Dan and Niki Bolinder, Lewis Miller, Kyle and Kara Bradshaw, and John Andrew Coleman; 13 great grandchildren; one brother Jim Evans; and one sister Ginny Dresser.
Visitation will be held at Crippin Funeral Home in the front entrance on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Grand View Cemetery.
