Esther M. Gale
April 18. 1934 ~ April 26, 2014
Esther Gale, 80, passed away in her home on April 26, 2014. Esther Lee Myers, the only child of John Henry and Edith May Myers, was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. She married Kenneth Gale in 1952 in Ogden and, after living in San Antonio, Texas and Scottsbluff, Nebraska, she settled with her family in Montrose on Memorial Day 1964. Ken and Esther purchased the bowling alley on Montrose’s Main Street and immediately began construction of the Rose Bowl Recreation Center which opened later that year. They owned and operated the business for 16 years. They also owned and operated Gale’s Cards and Gifts in downtown Montrose as well as a second store in Nampa, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by Kenneth, her husband of 57 years, and is survived by five children; Jeffrey, Sacramento, CA; Brent, American Fork, UT; Bryan, Hamilton, CO, and Tamara (Walworth) and Linda (Carl), both of Montrose. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and three great-grandsons, all of whom she loved dearly. Esther’s passion was her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of her life will be held at a private family memorial on May 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, her request was that donations be made to the Ken Gale Chamber of Commerce Scholarship. Checks should be made out to the Montrose Community Foundation, P.O. Box 3020, Montrose, Co. 81402, with a notation that proceeds be directed to the Ken Gale Chamber of Commerce Scholarship. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
