Elsie L. Dawirs, age 92, of Delta, CO, passed away July 17, 2018 at her home. She was born November 21, 1925 to Ernest and Winne (Gordon) Dever in Trenton, NE where she spent her childhood and received her education. She continued her education at the technical school of T.V.I. in Albuquerque, NM to receive her C.N.A. license.
Elsie married Robert A. Dawirs on August 10, 1947 in Kirk, CO. They celebrated 70 years of marriage August 2017.
She and Robert resided in Fort Collins and Boulder, CO until he finished school before moving to Albuquerque, NM. Later they moved to Tjeras, NM. After his retirement, they moved back to Colorado in Montrose. For the past three years they have lived in Delta.
Elsie was a cheerful, smiling, nurturing person. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. As a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for the holidays. She kept a nice, warm fire going during the winter months she spent special moments with her family. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and playing card games. She loved the job of shuffling the cards. Elsie enjoyed entertaining and was a wonderful hostess. A favorite pastime was watching hummingbirds. She always had at least one feeder for them.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montrose for many years and participated in their Supper Club. She was an active campfire girls’ leader, a Sunday school teacher, and Summer Bible school for the babies to toddlers’ class at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Albuquerque.
Surviving family members include her husband Robert; two daughters Diana Dawirs of Cedaredge, CO and LuAnn Mayfield of Conyers, GA; one son Larry Dawirs of Murphy, NC; three brothers Delmer Dever and wife Nadine of Platteville, CO, Kenneth Dever and wife Phyllis of Evans, CO and Keith Dever and wife Claudia of Loveland, CO; one sister Dorothy Thorson of Brighton, CO; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Life for Elsie will be held Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 2:30-4:00pm at Crossroads Assisted Living Center, 1380 Aspen Way, Delta, Co. 81416. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
