Elsie Kirkegaard, of Montrose Colorado, died July 23rd , 2014 at Montrose Memorial Hospital at the age of 92.  Elsie was born August 29th, 1921 to Karl and Marion ‘Mary’ (Krause) Ziegler in Hudson, Colorado and spent her childhood there.  Elsie graduated high school from Campion Academy in Loveland, Colorado and continued on to Barnes Business School in Denver, Colorado, Business School of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mesa College in Grand Junction.

Elsie married Phillip Kirkegaard on December 19, 1940 in Denver.  Elsie and Phillip had also lived in Aurora and Rulison, Colorado before moving to Montrose where Elsie and Phillip made their home until their time of death.  She was a member of the  Montrose Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Elsie was also a member of the Shepherdess Guild, Health and Welfare Society and Who’s Who in American Women.  She worked for the city of Montrose as the Purchasing Agent for 22 years before retiring in 1995.

Surviving family members include her son Leslie Kirkegaard of Ijamsville, Maryland; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Kirkegaard (March 2nd, 2007) and her daughter Joan Cooper (October 28th, 2012), 16 brothers and sisters and both of her parents.

At Elsie’s request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the Montrose Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1401 S. Townsend Ave., on August 16th at 3:30 pm.  All friends and acquaintances are invited to attend.  Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home& Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
