Elizabeth N. “Liz” Gerbrick

Elizabeth N. Gerbrick, of Montrose, Colorado died April 1, 2014 at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado at the age of 80. Liz was born October 29, 1933 to Theodore and Genevieve (Copeland) Nuttall in West Hickory, Pennsylvania, and raised in the Methodist Church. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Hickory Township High School. Liz went on to State Teacher’s College in Clarion, Pennsylvania and received her Bachelor of Science Degree. She went on to the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado for her Master of Arts. Liz was a teacher in Education for many years, prior to her retirement.
Liz married Thomas M. Gerbrick, Jr., on April 30, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he preceded her in death on January 30, 2006 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Following her education in Pennsylvania and Denver, Colorado, she had resided in Maryland also. Liz and Thomas moved to Montrose, and spent the last of their retirement years and made their home until their time of death. During her retirement years, Liz loved reaching out, volunteering and was a very generous donor to several charitable organizations that she felt were very important to the community; such as Habitat for Humanity and recent chairman of the Selection Committee on that board. She volunteered for the Montrose County Historical Society, Women’s Club. Liz enjoyed Southwest history, archeology, exploring, and reading.
Surviving family members include her step-daughters, Barbara Engel of Denver, Colorado, and Lynn Lord of Issaquah, Washington; sister-in-law Joanne Nuttall; nieces, Kathy Wagner, Karen Hummel, Carol Nicholson and Christine Martin; nephews Ted Nuttall, Greg Nuttall, Danny Hunter. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings. Memorial donations in memory of Elizabeth Gerbrick may be made to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 162, Montrose, Co. 81402. Burial and graveside services in the Georgetown Colorado Cemetery to be determined. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
