Virginia Schlauger was born August 9, 1921 in Denver, Colorado.  Daughter of Dr. Ernest F. and Ellen Peterson.  Her childhood was spent in the Nucla, Colorado area as a young child, she then moved to Montrose where she graduated from Montrose High School in 1939.  She married Manuel Schlauger on January 5, 1940, at Moab, Utah.  They made their home, raised five children, ran a successful business, and being involved in the ranching community over 55 years together, they came to be known by many residents in the region.  Virginia was especially proud of her family and took great pride in her home.

Survivors include two sons, David (Sandy) Schlauger, Alan (Cherrie) Schlauger, Montrose and three daughters, Carol (Charles) Dean of White Oaks, Texas, Kathleen (David) Watts of Aztec, New Mexico, Jeanette (Robert) Ellis of Grand Junction, Colorado; Twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Schlauger, parents and one grandson, Russell Rohwer.

Virginia had a great joy in cooking large meals for both family and visiting friends.  She knew no strangers and always went out of her way to say “Hello how are you” to everyone she passed by.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope West Hospice, in memory of Virginia Schlauger, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, Colorado 81402.  Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, with Interment that followed the service at Grand View Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
