Edith R. Bridgewater

Edith Rice Bridgewater passed away February 9, 2013 at Family Health West in Fruita Co. Edith Reed Rice Bridgewater was born in Kant, CO May 14 of 1917. She met and married Paul Rice in La Junta, CO March 1, 1934. They moved to Telluride, CO where they raised their five children, three sons and two daughters. After her husband’s passing in 1960, Edith moved to Alaska where she was a cook for the University of Alaska and the Healy Hotel. During her years of retirement she became a private caretaker of the elderly. She always gave a helping hand to those that were in need. Edith worked in the school systems of Georgia and Texas. She was an avid hunter, and a fan of the Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports in school as well.

Edith is survived by her son; Gene (Mary) Rice of Fruita, Co. Daughter; Alice (Henry) Perkins of Alaska, Era Rice Hancock of Olathe, Co. She leaves behind ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren.

Proceeding her in death are sons James and Paul Rice, and daughter Anita Smith, as well as four of her sisters and three of her brothers.

Edith had an unwavering faith in God and conveyed this to all who knew and loved her. She was an excellent caretaker and this was demonstrated by the wonderful meals she made and the time she took to read Scripture to those who could no longer do so.

A memorial service will be held at Crippin Funeral Home on February 15, 2013 at 10:00am. Crippin Funeral Home is located at 802 E Main St. in Montrose, Co. Friends and relatives are invited to the memorial service. Her final resting place will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Telluride, Co. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
