Dorothy Pauline Morton (Wilmer)

12-19-1931 – 8-24-2020

Dorothy Pauline Morton, 88, of Silverton Colorado, passed away on Monday, August 24th.

Dorothy was born on December 19, 1931 in Montrose, Colorado, to Louie Wilmer & Lena (Quintana) Wilmer.  After her mother, Lena passed away when Dorothy was just 5 years old she was left with the responsibility of helping take care of her siblings.

Dorothy loved quilting, sewing, crocheting and knitting. This was a self-taught skill that she used for many, many years.  She knitted Christmas stockings for each of her children and grandchildren as well as denim quilts and blankets.  She also knitted numerous baby hats, which she donated to the babies born at Denver Health.  She spend many years sewing costumes for the theatre group in Silverton.

She was a simple woman.  She loved her family the most.  She was a lover of hummingbirds, flowers, long walks, sitting on her bench in front of her house and Elvis. She loved to see places, she never missed an opportunity to take a trip with her kids. She was a wonderful cook and always made sure everyone was fed.  She was a woman of faith, reading from her bible each and every day. She was a longtime member of the Word of Life Church.

Her Grandson, Cheldon, said it best. She was born and raised in the high majestic wonderland. Like the people that came before her, she was hard as the rock that makes these mountains and had a spirit full of treasures, better than gold.

Dorothy will be remembered as a selfless, humble, loving mother and grandmother with a quiet strength who always had a smile even when times were tough.  She never complained and was always concerned for others more than herself.  Once you were met with her smile, you would never forget her. She was a hard worker and didn’t quit working until she was 87 years old.

Dorothy is proceeded in death by her late husbands Jake Gallegos and Richard Morton, sister Viola Vialpando, brother Joe Wilmer and grandson Von Michael Ernst. She is survived by her brother, Rudy Wilmer and Louie Pacheco.  She is also survived by her children Susan (Dave) Cano of Grand Junction, CO; Connie (Merwin) Todd of Loveland, CO; Laurie (Michael) Ernst of Dove Creek, CO; Jeff Gallegos of Silverton, CO; Dale (Cindi) Jaramillo of Ouray, CO; Tim (Jeannie) Freeman of Moore, OK; Chris Gallegos of Silverton, CO; Keith (Cynthia) Freeman of Moore, OK; Nancy (James) Kaiser of Montrose, CO; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Silverton Volunteer Fire Dept. (P.O.Box 532 Silverton, CO 81433) or Silverton Ambulance Association (P.O.Box 493 Silverton, CO 81433).
