Dorothy Alida Chace

May 2, 1929 – December 6, 2016

Dorothy Alida Chace, age 87, formerly from Englewood, CO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the Valley Manor Care Center under the care of Hospice.

She grew up an only child in Warren, RI, where she graduated high school. While working in a zipper factory she met the love of her life.  She invited him to the Jr. Prom and that was the beginning of her lifelong romance.  She was married to Arnold Everett Chace on May 1, 1952.

As a housewife, Dorothy took great pride in her home and would often say, “It’s not what you have but how you take care of it.”  She had many talents, including cooking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and various craftworks.  She was devoted to raising her family of five kids and two grandchildren, and was involved with volunteer work and church activities.  She had an extensive collection of owls, thimbles, recipes, coins, and Willow Tree angels.  She loved animals, and plants. Her favorite flower was the daisy and she liked the color pink.

She will be remembered by her friendly smile, generosity, and gentle spirit.  She never complained, always thought of others before herself and went out of her way to make you feel welcome.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, resident, and friend and will be deeply missed by all of us who were blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Arnold “Whitey” Chace of Montrose, CO; daughters Karen (Ken) Wood, and Karyl (Kevin) Dimmick of Montrose, CO; Karla Chace of Durango, CO; son Kevin Chace of Cocoa, FL; granddaughter Sara Chace of Charleston, SC; grandsons Liberty Wood of Lewisville, TX; Chris (Miranda) Wood, of Brussels, BE; Kelby (Bonnie) Dimmick of Littleton, CO; Korbin Dimmick of Auburn, AL; and great-grandchildren Madison, Benjamin, Emilee Wood of Lewisville, TX;  Destinee and Tylor Wood of Brussels, BE.

Proceeded in death by her parents Bruno and Alida Hartmann, son Keith Chace and grandson Kayne Chace.

Cremation has taken place at the Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose.  No service is planned until the time comes when she will be buried with her sweetheart at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.

The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to all of the people at the Valley Manor Care Center for taking such good care of Dorothy while she was in your facility and HopeWest for their care of our loved one.
