Doris Catherine (Cozine) Ryser went home to her Lord and Savior on October 29, 2024, at HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction, CO surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Washington, Kansas on March 8, 1936, to Vern and Irma (Ditmars) Cozine. She had an older brother, Hubert Cozine, who always watched out for her, and she adored him.
Doris attended school in Washington Kansas where she graduated in 1954. While in school, she was active in Pep Club and track and field.
Doris was raised in the Methodist Church. After moving to Montrose, she attended the Montrose Christian Church and later Grace Community Church. She instilled her love for the Lord in her children and grandchildren.
In 1956, she married Norman Ryser. They were married from 1956 – 1980. To this union, four daughters and one son were born. The family moved to Montrose, CO in 1965.
Doris was a dedicated homemaker while raising her children. When she was 55 years old, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant license while working at Colorow Care Center and later did home health care for the elderly.
Doris was an amazing seamstress and loved to crochet, embroider and do needlepoint. She made many beautiful gifts for her family and others. She donated baby blankets to the hospital, and enjoyed participating in craft shows with her daughters. Some of her other interests were bowling, playing games, and watching Hallmark Movies.
Doris is survived by her five children, Teri Reed, Cathy Wehmeyer, Christa (Darin) Johnson, Jeff (Amanda) Ryser and Jenny (Ben) Truscott. Her fourteen grandchildren, Amy (Jamie) Dubs, Heath (Sara) McCombs, Joshua (Stacy) Johnson, James (Lindsay) Reed, Jesse (Jenna) McCombs, Jordan (Mallory) Johnson, Zachary (Lindsey) Johnson, Dustin (Ashley) Reed, Maranda (Spencer Sinclair) Ryser, Jeffrey (Carissa) Ronzio, Brianne (Aaron) Brassard, Cole (Jessica Christiansen) Ronzio, Jacob Ryser, and Elijah Truscott. She is also survived by 43 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren on the way in 2025, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Irma Cozine, her brother, Hubert Cozine, sister-in-law, Wanda Cozine, and two sons in law, Larry Reed and Gary Wehmeyer.
A service will be held at the Montrose Church of Christ on November 16th at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation to HopeWest Hospice can be made in her name.
