Donna Jean George

Donna George, age 68 of Ridgway, Co., died August 28, 2014, at her home.  She was born in Pratt, Kansas,  the only child of Pearly and Jean Rusk.  In Donna’s early years, her family moved often in look for work, which was from state to state before settling in the Montrose area where she finished her schooling and graduated from high school. Donna married Gerald Gene “Jerry” George.  Following their marriage, Donna was a homemaker raising her 3 children.  Once Cori, Scott, and Jerry Lee were old enough and in school, Donna waited tables at the Sunset cafe in Ridgway and then later at the Nugget and Outlaw restaurants in Ouray.  In 1989, Donna started working as a cook at the Ridgway School and retired as the Kitchen Manager 18 years later.

Donna’s favorite part  of working at the school was giving each student  that “extra attention”.  That was Donna’s gift, making all of her friends, family, students, and acquaintances feel special and loved.  All who knew Donna will remember her smile, caring attitude, and especially her sense of humor. She was survived by her husband, Gerald Gene George; son, Jerry Lee George and his wife Mandi and their 2 children, Jordan and Jared; son, Scott George, and his wilfe Leilei and their 2 children Michael and Maximus; daughter Cori Fix,  and her husband Mark and their 5 children Kelsey, Katey, Keaton, Kiley, and Kenzey.

A  Celebration of Life will be held at the Ridgway Community Center on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 4:00 pm.  Food will be provided by former and present faculty of the Ridgway School, family, and friends.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
