Don Benny, age 94, passed away peacefully at home (Sunrise Creek) with his son, Jim at his side.

Don was born to James E. Benny and Edith Totten Benny, March 3, 1923 in Hartford Ct. He spent his childhood growing up in Sherman CT. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kenyon College in Ohio. Don was a WWII veteran serving in several European Army Message Centers.

Don married Elizabeth M. Harrison, (Betty), on September 18, 1948. The family moved to Denver in 1953 where Don was employed by the Security Life Insurance Co. He retired at the age of 67 as the Executive Vice-President. He and Betty spent many years traveling all over the world: Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, and China. Don was a great hockey enthusiast, who loved to play and watch hockey, especially his beloved Avalanche. Don also loved skiing. He and Betty went on many ski trips all over the west. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, and his son, Alan. He is survived by his children Robin (Dick) of Venice, Florida and Jim (Dee Dee) of Ridgway.

A memorial service will take place at Sunrise Creek on Thursday, May 25th at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hope West Hospice at 725 S. Fourth Street, Montrose, CO 81401. Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Internment of ashes will follow at a later date on Staten Island, NY.
