Don Allen Weber
September 29, 1936 ~ March 12, 2015
Don Allen Weber, age 78, of Montrose, CO died Thursday March 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family after being diagnosed with ALS in August.
Don was born September 29, 1936 in a small farmhouse on Spring Creek Mesa. After the death of his mother, he was raised in Hickman, NE by his grandparents. After graduation, he returned to Montrose where he met the love of his life, Beverly Catlin, while they were working together at Montrose Potato Growers Association. The two eloped and married on May 20, 1955. Don was hired in 1955 by Western Colorado Power Company as a hydro plant operator in Ouray & retired as a meterman foreman from DMEA in January 2002. He holds the distinction of being the only employee to attain 46 years of employment, the longest working record in the history of DMEA.
Farming was a way of life for Don & after retiring, his favorite pastime was to drive around the countryside watching the crops as they were planted, grown & harvested. On his final day, his last wish was fulfilled with a drive around the countryside to look upon the fields one last time. Don also LOVED trips to Mesquite. It was often said when he ran out of money, he would travel to Mesquite to win some more! He had a tender heart, an ornery smile & a quick wit! He loved to tell stories of his childhood. Don was a great man, a loving father and grandfather, & will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his daughter Jana (David) Millican of Montrose, his son Mike (Nancy) Weber of Clark, CO & grandchildren: Dani (Aragon) Gore of Montrose, Dacia Pierson of Brooklyn, NY, Jamie (Weber) Stucker of Temple, TX, Jennifer (Weber) Forcum of Steamboat Springs, CO, Charles Millican of Montrose & Sherry (Millican) Sanders of Dallas, TX.
