David J. Kunke, a dedicated husband, loving father, and esteemed Master Electrician, passed away on November 9, 2023, in Telluride, Colorado, at the age of 62. Born in Joliet, IL, Dave was a man of remarkable talents. On February 28, 1987, he married the love of his life, Lynne, on the slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette, MI. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family. Dave is survived by his cherished wife, Lynne (Legan), his daughters, and their families: Ami (Brant) Collofello with grandchildren Celia, Samuel, and Dalian; Ashley (Kunke) Bates with grandchildren Parker and Kayden. He is also survived by his parents, Norbert and Phyllis (Francisco) Kunke, his brother, Don Kunke, and sisters Karen (Kunke) Aguilar and Pam (Kunke) Lieser.
Dave’s life was a tapestry woven with multifaceted interests. An adventurous spirit led him to delve into various passions, from racing cars to skiing, from the joy of music to the serene company of horses. He was a leader of the ‘ghoul crew,’ creating some of the most chilling haunted houses and assembling an impressive zombie army every Halloween. His active participation in various school and community activities, alongside owning a business, showcased his diverse talents and commitment to serving his community. A true jack of all trades, he was known as the man who could make anything happen.
Dave’s unwavering work ethic and steadfast dedication in every facet of his life served as a shining example to all who knew him. His impact wasn’t limited to his bustling activity but rather emanated from his inherent kindness and selflessness. His spirit for problem-solving wasn’t confined to circuits or wires; he was an expert at untangling life’s knotty puzzles. His actions were a testament to the depth of his character, leaving an enduring impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
As a pillar of his family, Dave’s quiet influence reverberated far beyond his immediate kin, touching the lives of those in his community. The service to honor and celebrate Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1 pm at the Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose, followed by a reception at the Kunke house. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations toward the expenses.
