David Everett Karl of Montrose Colorado, passed away May 17th at HopeWest in Grand Junction Colorado from complications, due to a burning accident.
Services will be Saturday, June 3rd at the Cowboy Church on West LaSalle Road ½ mile from the highway on the north side of LaSalle. Time is 1:00p.m. with Pastor Gary Lear officiating.
David was born in Darien Conn. On October 24th, 1934. When graduating high school, he entered the Navy and was set to go to Vietnam but due to a sudden illness to his father, he finished his service in the Naval Reserves
He then attended the General Motors Institute and graduated to move on and work at his service station in Connecticut.
He then moved to Colorado to fill a work offer to go to Ford Motors in Montrose Colorado and become the service manager and office manager which he did for 23 years
After starting work there he met his future wife Loretta Pfifer from Delta and married her in 1964 and was faithful for 53 years.
After working at Ford, he had a short time at Brookharts lumber yard. He loved this job and enjoyed working with the public.
He then was offered a job by the airport manager to enter an apprenticeship for airport manager and eventually assume the role, which he took.
He ran the Montrose County Airport and the Nucla Airport for over 18 years.
He had the new terminal building built and is also the one person responsible for the Top Gun fighter jet sitting in front of the airport.
Whatever Dave did he put 110% into it. He was very particular that things be done right the first time.
From the Airport Dave entered retirement and was enjoying time on the ranch outside of Olathe
He loved to hunt elk and mule deer. He loved fishing and owned a boat for 25 years. He enjoyed his family, home, and going shooting. He mostly enjoyed anything that was outdoors.
He cheered for Matt Kenseth when NASCAR was on. He never missed a Colorado Rockies or Denver Broncos game ,,, EVER !!!!
His chickens were his pride and joy. Both Emil Karl and Marion Karl, David’s parents are now reunited with their son in Heaven. David is survived by his spouse Loretta Karl, son’s Jerry and Bob Karl; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3090 N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, Co. 81506. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, in Montrose.
