David Andrew Omernik

David Andrew Omernik, 58, passed away in Montrose, CO on October 14, 2018. Born in Austin, Minnesota, his family moved to Montrose, CO when he was a child.  David attended Montrose County schools before joining the United States Navy in 1978.  David served honorably in the Navy and was awarded two Humanitarian Service Medals, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, the Navy/Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal during his service.  Following an honorable discharge in 1982, David met his wife Kathy in 1984.  The couple married on Leap Year Day in 1988 and had two daughters to whom David was a loving father.  David and Kathy raised their girls in Lakewood, CO. Although David and Kathy separated in 2004, David remained an integral part of the girl’s lives seeing them both graduate high school before deciding to move to California for work in 2010.

David is survived by his daughters: Allison Bussard and Michelle Ozenbaugh. Grandson, Benjamin Bussard.  Mother, Helen Kay Omernik, and five siblings: Marc Omernik, Mary Mathis, Sue Petranek, Tom Omernik and Steve Omernik.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10 AM at Crippin’s Funeral Home.
