Daryl Wayne Barajas

December 2, 1976 — February 27, 2025

Montrose

Daryl Wayne Barajas was 48 years old when he passed away on Thursday, February 27th at St. Mary’s Regional hospital in Grand Junction. He was born on December 2nd, 1976, here in Montrose to Jesus and Joyce (Lopez-deceased) Barajas. Father to Abby and Ava of Montrose, Brother to Ben (Caroline and niece Sadie) Barajas of Denver and Lisa (Greg) Saunders of Montrose. Daryl went into the Peace Corp, where he obtained his GED. He then went on to the Vo-tech, in Delta, and studied CAD, which he was employed doing. As a family we went to Mexico numerous times to visit family there and spend our summer vacations, having many wonderful adventures there too.

Daryl was very close to his family, especially his daughters Abby and Ava, and the love of his life, Stacy. He was also remarkably close to his many extended family members, friends and his dogs, Chica, and Pepper Pots who passed away previously. Daryl was the youngest in our family and had the nickname of “Chiquitin,” which means little or young one.

Daryl loved the mountains and the great outdoors enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and snowboarding. He loved his music, his Vans shoes, his RC cars, good food, UFC fights and so much more. Daryl loved life!

Daryl was a man who made his mark in this world not with grand gestures or fancy titles, but by the basic goodness and generosity of his character, by the quality of his involvement with his family, friends, and fellow man, and how he brought out these qualities in others.

There were many wonderful aspects to Daryl’s life, and the many ways that he touched our lives. He will be remembered as a good son, a wonderful brother, the best dad a daughter could ask for, a cherished soulmate, a great friend and mentor. He made our lives richer and fuller.

Now that he has passed away, of course there is emptiness and pain, confusion and maybe even anger at death coming to soon, but in many ways, the gift of Daryl’s life is still here with us. He lives on in our memories and stories, and in what all of us have become because of him. So, I encourage you to share-today, tomorrow and in the years to come- your memories and stories. In this way we will keep the gift of Daryl’s life alive.
