Dan Stitt, age 86, of Montrose died peacefully at home on September 10, 2017. Dan was born January 6, 1931 to John and Della (Wriston) Stitt in Liberal, Kansas.
For many years, Dan worked as a Surveyor for Bureau of Reclamation in Montrose. He married Lois J. Long on January 6, 1953 in Paonia, CO. and she preceded him in death. Dan was a member of the Blue Lodge, Past Grand, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Eastern Star, Past Grand. He also was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War. He enjoyed the outdoors with his love for hunting, fishing and his A.T.V.
Surviving family members include his son, Donald and wife Penny Stitt of Montrose; three brothers Richard Stitt of Seymour, MO., Joe Stitt of Parkvale, CO, Lloyd Stitt of Salina, UT; two sisters Ruth Sandoval of Spokane, WA, Mary Ellen Gallo of Hazleton, PA, and Helen Taylor of Weatt, CA.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Dan’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3:00 pm at The Masonic Lodge on Rose Lane in Montrose, w/Pastor Paul Nystrom officiating. A private family inurnment will take place prior to the Service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
