Cynthia Grace Kennedy, age 91, of Montrose, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2018 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose. Cynthia was born May 8, 1926 to Jesse Richard and Estella Jane (Haney) Thompson. She spent her childhood and her education in Montrose. At the age of 22, Cynthia married Robert Karl Kennedy Jr. and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2002
She was a member of Hillcrest Congregational Church in Montrose, before her health was failing and resided in Valley Manor Care Center for many years. Cynthia loved children. Her son and daughter remember that she always welcomed their friends and had so much fun at their home. She was a children’s librarian for many years prior to her retirement. Cynthia was a Sunday School Teacher from a young age and continued into her retirement age. She was assistant Library Director in 1947, and active in Republican Women. Cynthia was an Election Judge for many years. She was a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader also and enjoyed crafts of all kinds; ceramics, and toll painting. She was a member of TOPS, losing weight sensibly. She loved spending time with family.
Survivors include her son, Donald (Linda) Kennedy of Montrose; a daughter Charline Ann (Dean) Farrar of Montrose, Co; sister in law Sherry Thompson of Grand Junction, Co.; Three grandchildren, Erin (Brent) Lott, Mallory (Sam) Stewart and Kellyn (Charles Vanderwist) Kennedy; two great-grandchildren Andrew Vanderwist and Zoe Stewart. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters one brother and her husband Robert.
Memorial contributions may be made to HopeWest Hospice, 725 S. 4th Street, Montrose, Co. 81401 or The Montrose Library, 320 S. 2nd St., Montrose, Co. 81401. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jerry Kistler officiating. The service will conclude at the chapel, and a reception for family and friends will be held at Saint Stephens Anglican Church on Sunnyside and Leeds Street. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
