Clifton “Al” Sims, 91, passed away June 26, 2015 at the HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. Al was born October 1, 1923 in Wagon Mound, New Mexico to Thomas Marvin and Jewel (Barton) Sims. Al joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1942, where he operated as an Airplane Armorer during World War II. On May 24, 1945 in Raton, New Mexico, Clifton married the love of his life Levora Williams. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before Levora’s passing in 2011. Al was known to have a great sense of humor. You could often find him working in his yard, or watching NASCAR. According to his family Al was capable of fixing anything.
Al is survived by his two sons, Ronald Sims of Graham, TX; Tom Sims of TX; two daughters Patty Frigetto of Montrose, CO; Janice Barnard of Montrose, CO; two siblings Cecil Sims and Shirley Arnett; 18 Grandchildren; 31 Great Grandchildren; and One Great Great Grandchild.
Al is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Jewel Sims; his wife Levora Sims; and three brothers Jimmy, Delmar, and Durwood Sims.
The family would like to make a special Thank You to HopeWest Hospice for their care and kindness.
There will be an informal graveside service at the Grand View Cemetery in Montrose, CO; July 7, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home.
