Clara Nell Axe (Adams)

July 26, 1930 — March 12, 2018

Clara Nell (Adams) Axe passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018, at her home in Montrose, Colorado. She was born in Allen, Texas, on July 26, 1930, and attended Garland High School. She married Carl Axe Jr. and enjoyed 39 years of marriage until his passing. Both came from pioneer families: in Garland, the Merriman’s, and in Rowlett, the Axe’s. Clara was very proud of her Texas heritage and was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Clara enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a natural caregiver and devoted countless hours to her friends, family, and neighbors. She enjoyed gardening, home decorating, and assisting husband Carl in designing homes that he built.
Clara moved to Colorado and co-owned a motel in Ouray, with her only son, Carl (Rick) Axe. There she enjoyed jeeping in the mountains, music festivals, and Elk Camp. In Montrose, she developed a close network of friends lovingly known as the “McDonald’s Coffee Group”.
She is survived by her son Carl Richard Axe with wife Karalyn, her granddaughter Ericka Dombroski with husband Joe, a great granddaughter Emma, all of Knoxville, TN, and brother Omer Adams with wife Sue of Hideaway, TX, plus a large group of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Montrose, Colorado at Crippin Funeral Home March 15, @10:00am.
