Chonie Maria Chavez (Martinez)

Chonie Maria Chavez (AKA) Maria Ausencion Martinez passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Valley Manor Care Center, in whom we want to give our deepest gratitude to all the staff who cared for her.

Chonie was born November 27, 1929 in Montrose, CO. She lived most of her life in California where she went to LA City College to learn Dietary/Nutrition. Chonie went on to work in food service in various places. She retired from Twelve Oaks Retirement Care Living, after 20 years of service and dedication.

Chonie loved helping others, going to casinos playing Bingo and Keno. She loved to travel to be with family. Chonie enjoyed going to the movies and concerts. She loved dancing her heart away to all music genre. Her beautiful, strong, loving, positive spirit was admired and deeply loved by everyone she met.

Chonie was married to the love of her life, Miguel Chavez for 44 years. He passed away August 19, 1994 in Montrose, CO.

She is survived by her children of Montrose, Michael Ambrosio Chavez, Cynthia Susan Chavez, David Charles Chavez and Children of California: Renee Lillian O’Neill, Gina Juanita Vargas, Daria Jean O’Neill and Guy Zachary Chavez. She is further survived by 18 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Anna Marie Crockett and son, Lawrence Steven Chavez.

A Memorial service will be held at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel (249-2121) on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00PM
