Chester “Gene” Eugene Markley

Chester “Gene” Eugene Markley of Olathe, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the age of 80.
Gene was born May 18, 1937 to Roy and Dorothy (McCarty) Markley in Hotchkiss, Co. Gene spent his childhood in the Pea Green area and graduated from Olathe High School in 1956. On August 12, 1960 Gene married the love of his life, Barbara in Delta, Co. Gene also served our country in the United States Army.
Gene was very active in the Olathe area community as part of the Olathe Fire Department and O.T.A Baseball, as well as a member of B.P.O.E. #1053. He loved as he put it going to the “place” in mountains. Gene was an avid fisherman and hunter, as well as enjoying golf and bowling.
Gene is survived by his loving family, which includes his wife of 57 years Barbara, of Olathe; his sons Brad Markley and wife Lisa of Olathe; Greg Markley of Montrose; Todd Markley and wife Shannon of Cedaredge. Gene is also survived by his sister Teri Williams and husband Mike of Litchfield Park, Az, and a brother Lee Markley and wife Florence of Olathe. Gene is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Mason Markley and wife Naomi, Paige Palmer and husband Seth, Dessa Markley, Dylan Markley, Bryce Markley, Dante Markley and Drew Markley. and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate the life of Gene is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Montrose Christian Church in Montrose, with burial to follow at the Olathe Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in memory of Gene Markley, may be made to Colorow Care Center, P.O. Box 710, Olathe, Co 81425. Arrangements are under the Care of Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
