Chelsi Marie Koller
September 27, 1985 ~ January 24, 2016
Chelsi Marie Koller died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 24th, after a lifetime of struggles from Juvenile diabetes. She was 30 years old.
Born September 27, 1985, Chelsi spent her childhood in Canon City, graduating with honors from CCHS in 2002. She was a gifted student, actress and singer, having starred in high school performances and serving as a National Anthem Singer at several pro and semi pro athletic events. She excelled in JROTC, and at one time was the youngest, highest ranking officer in the nation.
In spite of her health struggles, she lived an adventure-filled life – this caused many a grey hair on the heads of those who loved her. Chelsi was a no nonsense person who always stood up for the underdog. Because she refused to be defined by her diabetes, she refused to allow anyone to struggle on their own. Chelsi provided compassion, empathy, and kindness to all in need.
Chelsi met her guardian angel, her protector and her best friend when she met Lance Fitzgerald in 2010. With their similar interests, love of the mountains, and a quest for the simpler life, they moved to Ridgway in 2012, where Lance continues to serve as a Ridgway Deputy Marshall. Together they have shared adventures, laughter, and lives.
Chelsi deeply loved “her” Lance, her family, and her pets (sometimes not in that order-she really loved that dog!) She hated mean and shallow people, hot weather, and feet. Her favorite color was orange.
Chelsi leaves behind the broken hearts of her mom and Dad, Becky and Tom Walker; her protector Lance Fitzgerald; her beloved grandparents Dewey and Marie Punches; her brother (of whom she was so proud) Daniel Worthen; three step sisters, Tristan, Caitlin and Whitney Walker; uncles, aunts, cousins, and step grandparents, parents and lots of friends.
Chelsi was headstrong, funny, brilliant and beautiful. She struggled quietly, fought valiantly, and lived her life like a Gladiator. She left her mark on this earth in the short time she was with us. She will be missed forever. In lieu of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association, in memory of Chelsi Koller, 1801 Libbie Avenue, Suite 106, Richmond, Virginia 23226. A Celebration of Chelsi’s life will be held at Ridgway Town Hall Community Center at 201 N. Railroad in Ridgway, Colorado on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 2:00P.M. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family
