Charles Ralph Carr

Charles Ralph Carr, age 85, of Montrose passed away February 23, 2018 at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Charles was born May 14, 1932 to Ralph and Marguerite J. (Krout) Carr in Norwood, Colorado.
He spent his childhood in Norwood and Montrose along with the Logging Mills sites in Owl Creek, Arrowhead, Log Hill, and the Lone Cone area graduating from Montrose High School in 1950. Charles went on to college at Mesa State University in Grand Junction. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in November 1954 with continued service at the local National Guard. Charles married Joanne Brown on October 7, 1956. They were married 61 years as of his passing. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #63 and throughout the years the Montrose Jaycees, Elks, Eastern Star, Kiwanis and Shriners.
Charles with his father and brother operated Carr Lumber and Milling Company for many years on South Townsend Avenue selling in the 70’s to Sagebrush Sales. Charles had spent a lot of time at the sawmill camps while growing up and hiking to the top of Court House Mountain before everyone knew there was a trail. Charles along with his wife were concessioners at the Rim House which was a concession stand in the middle of the Black Canyon. They operated this business for 16 years. He never got tired of the view. He enjoyed woodworking and never met anyone he couldn’t talk to.
Surviving family members include his wife, Joanne; a son Ronald R. Carr of Mobile, Alabama; daughter Caryl Makowski of Thornton, Colorado; one sister Dianne Mahaffey of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren Joel Carr, Darin Carr, Taylor and Booker Makowski; great-grandchildren Bentley, Bradon, Mallory, and Bryce Carr. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother Terry and sister Sharon Lee (still Born), twins Myra Jo and Era Lou also stillborns.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Montrose Memorial Hospital for all of their assistance. We greatly appreciate Valley Manor Care Center and the Montrose E.M.T’s for their dedicated services and compassion during this trying time. At Charles’ request, cremation has taken place. A Service will be held at a later date when all the family can attend. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
