Charles Cordova has entered into eternal rest on February 18, 2013 at the San Juan Living Center in Montrose, Colorado.
Charles Cordova was born February 9, 1926 in Olathe, Colorado, to Salvador Raymond Cordova and Clarita (Lopez) Cordova. Charles Cordova graduated from the Olathe High School in 1944. Charles was an outstanding wrestler at the Olathe High School and was crowned as a three state champion (Utah, Wyoming and Colorado) prior to graduation. Charles then joined the NAVY and spent 2 years as a diver off the Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific area on the USS Randall of the 53rd Naval Construction Battalion with a title of Gunner’s Mate, 3rd Class.
Charles returned to Montrose, met and married Benita Chavez of Montrose on December 8, 1947 and they were married for 65 years. Benita and Charles had 3 children, Elizabeth Ann, Charles and John and have 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Charles Cordova worked proficiently in several job areas. Charles worked a short time with the Uncompahgre Water Users, mined in the Ouray and Silverton area, contracted home remodelings in the area and was a fencing contractor for numerous years. Charles contracted and constructed the Dallas Divide fence (Double RL).
Charles took tremendous pride as a care-giver for his family and friends and his Christian heart was obvious to all. Charles was a member of the Elk’s Club, the AMERICAN LEGION and SAINT MARY Catholic Church.
Charles Cordova is survived by his wife Benita, their daughter, Elizabeth, son Charles, all of Montrose and 3 brothers, Salvador Raymond Cordova of California, Edward Cordova of Utah, and Charles David Cordova of Montrose, Colorado. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Frank Cordova and Robert Cordova; 1 child, John Cordova, and 2 grand children, Monica and Nakima Cordova.
A Vigil and Rosary service will be held at Crippin Funeral Home on February 20, 2013, Wednesday at 7:00PM. Charles can be viewed Wednesday PM from 5:30 to 6:30 prior to the Vigil and Rosary. Funeral Services will be at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Interment will take place at Valley Lawn Cemetery, south of Montrose, Co. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado
