Cecilia L. Trujillo

Cecilia L. Trujillo,  age 99, formerly of Montrose, took the Lord’s hand when he called on Friday morning, May 10, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico with her family present.

Cecilia Trujillo was born December 26, 1913 in Albert (or Bueyeros or David), New Mexico to Pedro and Manuelita Lovato and was baptized in Bueyeros, New Mexico.

There were 5 brothers and 5 sisters in her family including Anna, Lena, Isabelle, Josephine, Pete, Frank, Don, Carl, and Cecil.

Cecilia’s father died in 1923 and she moved to Montrose, Colorado with her mother and brothers and sisters at the invitation of their uncle Jose la Cruze Gallegos.

Cecilia went to elementary and high school in Montrose and later graduated from Business School there.

She started work at the Utah Power and Light Company in Montrose in 1944 and married Dennis Trujillo in 1946.

Her son Dennis was born in 1948, three months after her husband died.

Cecilia worked for Utah Power and Light for 32 years, retiring as the head bookkeeper in the accounting office in 1976.

After her retirement, Cecilia traveled the world often with various sisters and was a volunteer for several organizations in Montrose.

Her great loves in life were her family, church, and traveling.

Cecilia lived in Montrose for 84 years before moving to Albuquerque to be with her son Dennis and daughter in law Beth.

Cecilia has one granddaughter, Morgan Trujillo, who lives in Austin, Texas.

During her time in Albuquerque Cecilia loved to go for scenic rides, go on picnics, and to read.

Cecilia was one of the great women of the 20th Century, coming from a humble background to become a successful businesswoman, and world traveler.  She was always inquisitive, had a wonderful sense of humor, always wanted to learn more about her surroundings, was incredibly independent, self assured, and her own woman.

 A vigil followed by a rosary will be held on Tuesday, May 14th at 5:00 p.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.  A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal will follow the mass at Cedar Cemetery, East of Montrose.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
