Catherine H. Crisp

November 23, 1924 ~ February 6, 2015

Catherine H. Crisp, age 90, of Montrose died February 6, 2015 at her home.  Catherine was born November 23, 1924 to Carl B. and Anna Matilda (Lang) Hobe in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.  She spent her childhood in Pittsburg, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona where she graduated high school, then on to a year of vocational school to become a professional seamstress.  At the age of 23, she married Alford E. “Al” Crisp on February 20, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona.

After raising their three daughters, Catherine and Al enjoyed camping and traveling with their fifth wheel in tow, across the United States.  Eventually they moved to Montrose, where they both resided and made their home until their time of death.  While in Montrose, Catherine was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary, for the Gideon’s for 32 years.  She worked as a recess monitor at Johnson’s Elementary for two years, was a member of RSVP and helped deliver Meals on Wheels for ten years.  Catherine and Al were members of the Rosemont Baptist Church where they worked in the clothing ministry.  Catherine sang in the choir and enjoyed singing in worship services on Sunday morning.   Catherine was a loving mother and wife and she found much joy in cooking and caring for Al, before his passing in 2005.  Her plants and feeding the birds were a past time she enjoyed. She was an avid scrabble player and had a special talent for putting jig-saw puzzles together.  Catherine enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit her.

Surviving family members include her daughters, Sandra Garrigan and Terry Crisp, both of Montrose; one brother, Carl Hobe of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Tonya Burkholder of North Bend, Oregon, Mitch Topliss of Ft. Worth, Texas, Nona Wiley of Grand Junction, Randall Wiley of Thornton, Colorado, Rex Perkins of Chandler, Arizona, Trina Marquez of Mesa, Arizona and Daniel Perkins of Austin, Texas; and 12 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one daughter, Marian McGuire, two sisters, Margaret Lively and Dorothy Reid.

Friends are welcome to the Interment at Grand View Cemetery, prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning, February 12, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Following the interment, a Celebration of Life will be at 11:00A.M. at Rosemont Baptist, with a reception to follow.
