Carolyn Gertrude Jones passed away peacefully, with her daughter by her side, Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the age of 81. She is survived by one daughter, Denise Jones, of Ridgway, Colo.; one son, David Jones, of Orange County, Calif., and a number of extended family members.

Carolyn was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Los Angeles to Roy and Elma Welland. The youngest of four children, she was predeceased by three older brothers, Carl, Joel and Rick Welland. She graduated from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, Calif., and attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. After college, Carolyn moved briefly to Honolulu, where she worked in advertising. Returning to Southern California, she lived in the Los Angeles area, Palm Desert, Westlake Village and San Diego.

A loving and dedicated single mother, Carolyn also enjoyed a successful career. She served as deputy city clerk for Rancho Mirage, Calif., and was a respected legal secretary for prominent trial lawyers in Palm Desert and San Diego. She was also involved in charity work through the Bob Hope Desert Classic, and she enjoyed entertaining and gourmet cooking. In her later life, Carolyn lived for 10 years in Coronado, Calif., enjoying sweeping views of the San Diego skyline and Bay Bridge from her apartment. She strived to live independently, and enjoyed commuting around the island on her scooter, socializing with friends and neighbors, summer concerts in the park, Friday night happy hours, and holiday celebrations. She moved to Colorado in 2020 and spent her final year living close to her daughter, Denise, and Newfoundland granddog, Blake, and enjoying the gorgeous San Juan Mountains.

Carolyn courageously battled COPD for over 20 years and supported others suffering from the disease through Facebook and various online support groups. She will be missed dearly by all those she touched and remembered with love. No services will be held. Her daughter will honor her wishes privately.
