Carol Renfrow

Carol Renfrow went to her Heavenly Home on July 16, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer for over four years. She was born in Oklahoma City where she was raised for the first five years of her life by her grandmother (“Nannie”.) She then moved to Denver where she attended elementary school, then to Oklahoma City and Wichita, Kansas, for junior high and part of high school. She moved back to Denver her sophomore year and graduated from Alameda High School in 1964. Carol graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on June 7, 1968. The next day, she married “Her One and Only,” Jim Renfrow. Two weeks later, Jim and Carol moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where Jim worked for GE—Missile & Space Division and Carol worked first for the Red Cross, then at Halifax Hospital in Intensive Care. After a year in Daytona, GE moved them to Lamp Division in Cleveland, Ohio, where Carol worked at Booth Memorial Hospital (a Salvation Army hospital) in labor and delivery. GE next moved them to Aircraft Engine Group, Rutland, Vermont where their oldest son, John, was born in 1970. After 6 months, GE transferred them back to Cleveland. In 1972, they departed GE for Montrose, CO, and invested in opening a home furnishing store known as Renfrow’s Furniture & Appliance –Montrose. Another son, Adam, was born in 1973 and the family continued in the furniture business until 1985. Next, Carol helped with Jim’s ERA real estate office for several years. Carol was also a consummate stay-at-home mom and she served our family with a great deal of love and creativity.

Carol loved hiking in the beautiful Colorado mountains and climbed 35 of Colorado’s 14’ers. She also enjoyed hiking the trails around Grand Junction, Utah and Phoenix. She had a passion for the beauty of the mountain wildflowers and loved to identify and photograph them. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, 4-wheeling, x-country skiing, and grouse hunting. Designing greeting cards on the computer and customizing each card for each person and occasion was one of her many talents. Volunteering was very special to her, and she volunteered for the Red Cross, RE1-J schools, Hospice, Christ’s Kitchen, Montrose Jail Ministries, and her favorite, Montrose Memorial Hospital, where she volunteered in Same Day Surgery for 20 years.

Carol’s favorite book was the Bible and she enjoyed her church families both at First Presbyterian and Grace Community. Her greatest joy was in knowing that her sons, daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren had all received Christ as their Savior and were building growing relationships with Him. Her family was her pride and joy, especially her six grandchildren, each so very special. We cannot hold her back from becoming everything in Christ that she was meant to be, to His Glory.

She was preceded in death by her father, Myrle Dunsdon. Carol is survived by her husband, Jim, her mother, Ardyce Dunsdon (Golden, CO), her son, John and wife Sarah (Montrose), son, Adam and wife Mary Beth (Montrose), and 6 grandchildren, Eliana, Abigail, Isaac, Olivia, Jonah, and Jeremiah, all of Montrose, and brother-(in-law) and wife, Les and Ann Renfrow (Delta).

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Grace Community Church. The service will conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers, Carol requested that all contributions go to the church of your choice or her grandchildren’s World Vision Missions Fund, c/o any Alpine Bank.
