Carol Etta Cummings Nesius

October 15, 1935 ~ January 24, 2016

Carol was born at home in Hanover, Maine, the youngest of 3 children.

She graduated from Gould Academy, Bethel, Maine and then went to the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, MA where she received her RN (Registered Nurse) degree. After working in Boston for a few years, she drove west to visit a school mate in the Chicago area. Here she met Phil and they were married a year later. They spent the next 36 years in Chicago raising their children. Carol was a stay at home Mom, volunteering with the PTA, Girl Scouts, and church. They retired to Montrose in 1996 and have considered this home ever since. Carol has volunteered at the Same Day Surgery Unit at Montrose Memorial Hospital for almost 19 years. She was also at the Ute Indian Museum for a time and a past member of the Chipeta Archeology Club, and a volunteer at the Historical Museum for many years. She was a member of the Hillcrest Congregational United Church of Christ.

Surviving family are her daughter, Karen (Mike) Nesius Roeger, grandson Peter of Fort Wayne, IN, and son, William “Bill” (Sutaya) Nesius of Waukegan, IL; a sister Barbara Ellingwood of Rotonda West, FL and Ann Carlson of Kennebunk, ME.

At her request, there will be no service, cremation has taken place.

Carol’s wish is for a Right to Die law that will allow a person who has an illness and health issues that are irreversible that will leave the individual unable to be self-sufficient and independent to have a choice of life, or death with grace and dignity.

Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory.
