Carol Ann Hinshaw
March 11, 1939 ~ June 12, 2017

Carol Ann Hinshaw was born March 11, 1939 to Charles and Willie (Cleghorn) Lawson in Ada, Oklahoma. She passed on to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after living at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colorado. She died from complications of dementia. She was 78 years old. Carol graduated from Ada High School and attended East Central Oklahoma University earning Bachelor and Master’s degrees in education.
Carol married Glen Hunzaker and from that union were born two children. That marriage ended in divorce. She taught in several southeastern Oklahoma schools, Big Spring and Kress, Texas. She married Gary Kelton and lived in Plainview, Texas. That marriage also ended in divorce.
Carol vacationed many times in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado and enjoyed Jeeping on the historic mining roads and tails around Ouray. She was an avid river rat and had floated the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, swimming, and photography. Carol was always active in her church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and sang in choirs.
After nearly thirty years in the teaching profession, she retired, left the flat land of Texas and moved to Montrose, Colorado. She wanted to be close to the San Juan Mountains, where she had vacationed for many years, enjoying Jeeping and being in the high country. She married Glen Hinshaw and after he retired from the Colorado Division of Wildlife they pulled their travel trailer from coast to coast and boarder to boarder. They continued their mutual love of river rafting, Jeeping, photography and an active church life.
Carol is preceded in death by her father, Charles Lawson, her mother Willie Parker, Step-father Ellis Parker, and one grandchild. She is survived by her husband Glen Hinshaw, son Mark (Susan) Hunzaker of Cary, North Carolina; daughter, Elain (Kevin) Benson of Madill, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; two step-children; five step-grandchildren; and one step- great granddaughter.
