Carlisle C. Teague, Jr. was born June 12, 1930 in Long Beach, California to Carl C. Teague and Lois Thomas who were originally from Montrose, Colorado.
During the war years, Carl, Jr. would spend the summers in Montrose. The family returned to Montrose in 1945 and Carl, Sr. purchased the Texaco Service Station. Carl, Jr. graduated Montrose High School in 1948 and joined the U.S. Navy, was discharged in 1950 and returned to Montrose. He was working for the Bullock One power plant during its construction. During the Korean War, Carl was called back to active duty. He spent 23 months in the Sea of Japan and Yellow Sea and was on 7 different aircraft carriers due to his attachment to the Admiral’s staff.
Carl Received the following awards during his Naval service: Navy Good Conduct Ribbon; National Defense Service Ribbon; Korean Service Medal; U.N. Korean Service Ribbon; Korean Defense Command Ribbon; Combat Service Commemorative Ribbon; R.O.K. War Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Command Ribbon; Navy Command Ribbon; Honorable Service Commemorative Ribbon, and; the Korean Presidential Unit Citation (USAF/USN/USCG/USMC).
Carl returned to Montrose in 1954 and married Melba Loy Metcalf in 1958.
Carl was one of the original five founding members of the Montrose Sheriff’s Posse in 1964, has been a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for 67 years. He served as Exalted Ruler and held many other offices during his years of membership. He is a life member of the Elks since 1996. During his term as Exalted Ruler, he and Melba were privileged to attend the Elks National Convention in New York which included a side trip to London, England.
Carl and Melba operated Carl’s Floral & Gifts for many years. When the shop closed, he went to work for City Market as a Customer Relations Manager. He retired after 18 years of service with City Market. During this time Carl and his dad operated the ambulance service for the area.
During his life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and spending time at their mountain cabin. Carl is survived by wife Melba of 59 years. Son, Charles of Fredrick, Maryland, granddaughter Kentra, and four great-grandchildren. Son, Alan (Kristen) of Denver, Colorado, grandchildren Gabrielle and Matthew Wills.
Services to honor Carl’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Montrose Elks Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made payable to the Elks National Foundation, C/O Montrose Elks Lodge, 801 S. Hillcrest, Montrose, CO 81401
