The Holman family had a farm south of town, and Carla grew up with her 2 brothers and 4 sisters in a home on South 5th Street in Montrose. Carla graduated from Montrose High School in 1956.
She married the love of her life, George Richard “Rick” Rowan, son of George and Maxine (McClanahan) Rowan on December 14, 1957. They had 4 children and 10 grandchildren, Zane Rowan (Lori) of Montrose and their children, Betty Tomlinson and Chris Rowan; Aaron Rowan of Montrose and his children, A.J. (Anna) Rowan and Shyla (Scott) Standish; Tawna Caddy (Keith) of Montrose and their children, Danielle (Kiel) Wyatt, James Caddy, Keith Caddy Jr., David Caddy and Benjamin Caddy; and Sonya (Larry) Scott of Elko, Nevada, and their daughter Chancie Scott. They have 12 beautiful great grandchildren, Easton, Saxton, Harley, Jax, Landen, Joshua, Zane, Rylan, Griffin, Cooper, Natally and Indi. Carla also has numerous nieces and nephews on the Holman side and 2 nephews on the Rowan side that she loved dearly. Carla was preceded in death by her husband Rick, son Aaron, her parents and her brother Jerry.
Carla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She devoted much of her life to caring for her family. She was always willing to taxi her children and their friends to and from activities, and they often had a full house mixed with their children, friends and cousins. The family has fond memories of fun, mischief and constant adventures. They especially enjoyed spending summers in Silverton, Co. Carla’s children were involved in high school rodeo, and she served as the Colorado High School Rodeo State Secretary for 5 years while Rick served as State President. Rick and Carla loved being involved and watching their children rodeo. They continued to enjoy going to rodeos and were able to travel to professional rodeos, including PBR Rodeo in Las Vegas, NV. Carla enjoyed spending time with any of her large family and loved having her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren come and visit. She always had hugs and special treats for the little ones.
Rick and Carla moved to Moab, UT, for 5 years when the kids were young and then returned to Montrose. Carla began working outside of her home and worked for Russell Stovers Candies, Dr. Spaulding and Dr. Burns. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Menoken Water and High Country Properties. Carla was proud of her husband and supported him as he served their community in many ways including Volunteer Fire Dept, Montrose Sheriff’s Posse, Deputy and Undersheriff and an EMT for the Montrose Ambulance Service.
Rick and Carla enjoyed traveling, and they were able to make many special trips with family over the years. They especially enjoyed multiple road trips with Carla’s sister Majorie and brother-in-law Billy Reed. Carla was able to take a special road trip with Marjorie and Billy last summer to Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Nevada. She had a really great time with them. Carla liked to have fun and socialize, and one her favorite activities was getting together with her friends from “Club” to play cards and visit.
